I haven’t read a lot of Lexi Blake, and Love the Way You Spy was my first time stepping into this particular universe with these characters and families. I had zero context going in, but it didn’t matter. I was able to follow along without feeling lost, and I was into it right away.
It’s romantic suspense, and that combo was super well done. There’s enough tension to keep things moving, but the emotional core stays front and center. The male lead is one of those quiet, steady types who suddenly drops something heartbreakingly sincere and leaves you blinking at your phone like... oh. I was not ready to feel feelings today. There was a moment, don’t quote me on it exactly, where he tells her he’ll always hold her when she cries, even if he’s the reason she’s crying. Which. Rude. Honestly. I was just trying to clean the kitchen and suddenly I’m tearing up over fictional emotional maturity.
The audiobook narration was great. Good voice work, natural pacing, no distracting choices. It let the story shine without getting in the way, which is exactly what I want in an audiobook like this.
If you’re into emotional, romantic heroes and you like a little danger and tension in the mix, this one is worth checking out. It's 4.5 stars from me.
And now I’m side-eyeing the rest of Lexi Blake’s backlist to see what else I’ve been missing.
